James Bond Producers to make the film Remote Control

Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli

Bond Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have teamed up with Sony to make the film Remote Control, a thriller based on a novel by Mark Burnell.

Interestingly enough, this will be only the 2nd non-bond film made by EON Productions, the first being Call Me Bwana, released in 1963. EON has reportedly signed a 15 film contract with Columbia Pictures, in an attempt to establish British writers in America.

The press release follows.

The Blofeld Trilogy to be Compiled into One Book

The Blofeld Trilogy

It appears that Ian Fleming's fantastic "Blofeld Trilogy", composed of the three novels Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice, is going to be compiled into a single book, which will be released on 1st October, 2009.

There is no blurb, description or cover art yet (hence our mangled image), but there is a listing on amazon. At 720 pages, this collection includes two of my favorite James Bond novels, and all three are generally very highly regarded throughout the Bond community. (But don't take just my word on it, a quick check at MI6 and Kim Last yields identical ratings of 4 1/2 stars, 5 stars, and 5 stars for each novel respectively.

If you haven't read any Fleming yet, this could be a fantastic place to start. Although it does seems a little pricey at 15 pounds. Perhaps it'll include a commentary or some other extra material. We'll keep you updated.

Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli

With the British Film Institute currently celebrating the centenary of Bond Producer Cubby Broccoli, The Guardian has been able to get an interview with current Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, Cubby's daughter and step son.

The interview was conducted at Eon House in Piccadilly, London, the HQ of Eon Productions. It was part of the Film Weekly podcasts with Jason Solomons. Jason started off the conversation by discussing the legacy of their father.

"Oh, definitely," said Barbara. "I mean, Cubby Broccoli, my father, was an extraordinary man and he assembled with Dr. No the most astounding group of talent with directors and craftsmen and created with his partner Harry Saltzman a new genre of films."

The Centenary of Cubby Broccoli

Cubby Broccoli

Last Sunday, 5th April, was Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli's centenary, that is, the 100th year since his birth. Cubby was the key producer of the Bond films from their beginnings in the early 1960's, until his death in 1996. He is considered to be the leading force behind the entire series and has become a legend among fans.

In the early 1960's, Cubby had broken up with his film partner Irving Allen, and was looking for a new project. He heard from a friend that Harry Saltzman had the rights, and was having trouble getting the money together, with his 6 month hold on the novels about to run out. Cubby went to see him, attempting to buy the rights, but Harry didn't want to give them up, so they instead formed a partnership, and the legend began.

Daniel Craig Quits the Role of James Bond

Daniel Craig

The Globe and Mail reports that Daniel Craig has quit the role of James Bond, after a heated argument with producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. We called EON Productions, who confirmed the news, but refused to comment further on the situation.

We investigated further, and contacted a friend of ours who works at Pinewood Studios. She wishes to remain anonymous, but told us relations had been on a thin thread for quite a while, although she didn't know why. One thing she was sure of though, was that Daniel's decision was final.

Rumor has it that Pierce Brosnan was asked to come back for Bond 23, but he refused the role because of his age. Other possible candidates include Christopher Walken, Richard Branson and Noel Edmonds, but we have yet to receive a reply from there respective agents.
